Job Description
Our client based in County Derry are leaders in their field of operation supplying specific IT type products and services to their clients mainly within public sector.
As part of ongoing development they now require an experienced PHP Developer with supervisory experience to join their team immediately.
Working within a small to medium sixed technical team you will be the involved in the development of cutting edge web applications, you’ll get to work in a creative, innovative and very fast paced environment and get the opportunity to prove your technical credentials daily.
This role is ideally suited to those with experience of PHP programming as a core development language as well as CSS and open source technologies.
As an integral part of the team your main responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Hands-on coding (often to meet tight deadlines)
Working with the team to translate customer requirements into high quality software solutions
Ensuring the high standard of development expected through rigorous testing
Helping with writing specifications and estimating time required to deliver on projects
Delivery of software using agile project methodologies
To be considered for this position you will have:
Proven PHP development experience and debugging skills
HTML/CSS knowledge
Development experience on LINUX or UNIX environments highly desirable
MySQL database development experience also highly desirable
Experience of software testing and quality control processes
Excellent communication skills
Experience of developing for Word press or similar content management system

Job Overview:
- Provide technical advice to the project team, including project managers, analysts and engineers.
- Responsible for requirements analysis and detailed design of various technical aspects such as software and network on a project basis.
- Accountable for bringing together different aspects of IT design and applying it in a relevant manner to the design of the organisation’s products and/or services.

- Understand client requirements at a detailed level in order to translate them into technical specifications;

Education and Professional Qualifications

- 8+ years experience in an IT environment.

The purpose of this role is to clearly oversee the successful design, coding and delivery of specific technical applications and / or products in the company portfolio. Successfully appointed individuals will be expected to participate in sections of single or multiple projects ensuring the solution/s developed meet both the projects’ functional and business requirements. Accountable for the consistency of application component code, a primary element of this role will involve ensuring it meets the requirements of the functional specification/s and ensuring any issues or risks that may affect the project deliverables are raised to the Development or Project Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist as required in scope definition, technical viability scoping and best practice solution design to meet the needs of the product and/or client.
- Provide estimations on a specific solution to senior team members which have an impact on time, cost and design.
- Through the review and understanding of functional specifications, write component designs and deliver code according to the requirements.
- Using the QA bug reports, you will provide time estimations for completion of assigned bugs, conduct unit testing and log code back into the appropriate source repository for testing.
- Where appropriate, provide input into development of solutions that create innovation and have a beneficial outcome to the product or application.
- Ensure all risks and issues that effect the project are raised following set processes and are actioned appropriately.
- Escalate risks and issues that pose a significant impact to deliverables.
- Ensure any change requests meet the criteria of the change request process
- Provide accurate time and cost estimates for required changes, where possible
- Provide alternative solutions to minimize time and cost.
Education & Qualifications
- University degree or equivalent preferably in Computer Science or similar
- Professional programming certification in a mainstream development Object Orientated language such as Java, C++, PHP.
Experience
• Demonstrable PHP software engineering experience in a web development capacity.
• Application development experience in PHP4 and/or PHP5.
Knowledge & Skills
• Strong expertise in PHP4 and/or PHP5 and MySQL 5
• Application development experience in PHP4 and/or PHP5
• A mainstream development Object Orientated language such as Java, C++ or similar
